The OPTI MIX 2K / HD Coating Unit consists of a fully enclosed frame in which all areas of the machine are accessible via doors or bulkheads. The pump cabinet houses the A-pump for the polyol component and the B-pump for the isocyanate component. In the high-pressure version, the pumps are multi-piston axial pumps. The pumps make it possible to reliably process unfilled and low-viscosity materials.
The output capacity of the unit in its standard version lies between approx. 1.0 and 4.0 liters per minute. The pumps are attached on the intake side to nitrogen-charged downdraft heaters made of stainless steel.
These downdraft heaters have a capacity of 72 liters per component. Each heater has its own separate heating and control system. Temperatures are measured by temperature sensors and processed in the unit’s SPS system by means of temperature regulators. The downdraft heaters consist of three sections: storage reservoir, damper register and collection basin. If the material consistency requires it, the storage container on the polyol side is equipped with a robust mixer.
Both of the material components flow separately along the following path:
The material passes from the storage reservoir and into the damper register, which consists of many bundles of small pipes. The heating medium (water with anti-freeze) flows around and surrounds these pipes. In this process, only the amount of the individual components required at the current time is warmed. The materials are then fed to the pumps via a suction filter and then to the hose package via a volume flow meter and pressure sensor.
The pumps are driven by frequency-controlled electric motors, which are energized by frequency converters. Here, we use modern and proven technology from well-known manufacturers. The control system corrects as necessary for RPM deviations or wear-and-tear to the pumps that could lead to fluctuations in the transport volume.
The data needed for this process are acquired by the volume flow meters and processed by the SPS control system. The system compares the dosage of both components with respect to one another and the overall volume flow with the reference setting. Using this frequency regulator, both volume streams are transported according to the preset mixing relationship with a maximum deviation of ± 2%. Using the keyboard, display and corresponding menu system, a variety of mixing relationships for all common materials can be easily entered into the integrated SPS control unit. Pressure sensors measure the operating pressures, which are compared with the default values in the SPS. The unit shuts down automatically in case of overpressure.
The heating hose package consists of two separate heating hoses for the A- and B- components. These hoses consist of an inner hose made of PTFE and a surrounding jacket made of a 2-layer, stainless steel wire mesh. These hoses are rated for operating pressures up to 425 bar. The A- and B-hoses are designated by the colors blue and red and have different connecting threads, excluding a mix-up of the components.
Both material hoses are heated separately and have their own temperature control system. In each case, the stainless steel jacket serves as the heating resistor. Temperatures are captured by temperature sensors and processed in the unit’s SPS system by means of temperature regulators. This precise control guarantees maximum temperature deviations at the spray gun of ± 2%. The heating hoses are equipped with flexible, silicon-based insulation.
The OPTI MIX 2K HD Coating Unit comes with a 25-meter long hose package and a 2-component static mixing pistol as standard equipment. Static mixers in a variety of types for processing epoxide and PU are also available. These ensure homogenous mixing of both components. For special applications, e.g., poly-urea applications, spray pistols with counter-injection mixing heads are also available.
To increase the safety of the unit, pressure in the hose package is automatically released upon completion of the spraying process. An inner circuit is also activated that uses convection uniformly heat the material and those parts of the unit that come in contact with it. This facilitates a low-loss run-up of the unit following an interruption in work.
Following the circulation process, the machine is released by the SPS control system only when all parameters have achieved their preset values. The OPTI MIX 2K-HD is also ideal for casting applications and requires no modifications to be used in this role.
Options:
- An automatic refill unit that uses 60- and 200-liter bunghole barrels as delivery containers can be connected using adapters on the downdraft heating units. The A- and B-downdraft heaters are then refilled with the materials via barrel pumps. To avoid any form of sedimentation, the contents of the polyol barrel can be circulated by the barrel pump and then agitated, if necessary.
- For large-area applications (e.g., industrial flooring or flat roof coating), the output capacity of the unit can be increased to about 10 l/minute, in part with larger pumps.
- The hose package can be lengthened to 75 meters in 25-meter increments by installing additional heating transformers and hose extenders.
